+ The Children We Remember
+ Chana Byers Abells
+ The book has pictures of the children before and after the Holocaust, families, homes, and businesses of the Jewish.
+ The Children We Remember is a picture book telling and mainly showing the effects the Nazis had on Jewish families. There were pictures of how Jewish people were allowed to live a normal life; go to school, church, go to work, and sleep under their own roof. Then, the Nazis came into power in 1933. There were pictures of how Jewish people were forced to sew patches of the star on their clothing to distinguish them as Jews. Pictures of Nazis shutting down Jewish stores, schools, and synagogues. Nazis took away the homes of the Jewish families and they were forced to live on the streets. When they were cold all they could do was wrap themselves with dirty rags.
+ I feel horrible for the people who suffered the Holocaust and the people who died because the Holocaust.

Lots of people don’t even believe in the Holocaust. There were no jobs when Germanys postwar government was in turmoil. War had messed up all transportation systems. There was no way to get food to the people. German money had no kinds of value. Hitler came to power in 1933. Jews originated in the Middle East.

Section title: The fate of other untermenchen
Picture description: it looks like a normal street scene in leingrad, russia until the body being pulled on the sled is noticed. During the German siege of the city which lasted well over two years, more than a million citizens died of starvaton, disease,or exposure.
Summary: the section was about the Russians and Ukrainians of eastern Europe and the czechs, poles, and Slovaks of the are central Europe. Between September 1939 invasion of Poland and sept 1944,more than 7.5 million civilians from many countries were rounded up for shipment to Germany to work as slave laborers. Wives and husbands were seperated, and older children were kidnapped, they were treated very bad. What I think about this part is that they didn’t care for what they did because I feel sorry for what they did to the oldest children that they would get torture.

Victims of the Holocaust.

This book explains the history of why Jews were being hated. It explains way back into the European history. It says that the Jews were small in number, they were refusing to change their ways or religion while living among other people who were into different religions. Small conflicts between Jews and area they lived in resulted in them moving into different parts of Europe. They began migrating to France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Belgium. They also fled to Independent German states and to Austria and Hungary. To keep themselves from being persecuted, they moved further east into Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Latvia, Ukraine, and Russia. They dressed, and believed differently, so where ever they were headed, they were not welcome. They were persecuted. They were forced to live in ghettos. They were forbidden to mix with Christians. Could not own land. Could not practice Law or Medicine. They were limited to many of the things they could do.
I think that everyplace you could ever imagine is afraid of change. Europe seemed like they were afraid of change, so they decided to drive them out of their country. I know what its like to have change in my life, but different things will come and go for the good and the bad. You cant control what happens in your country, and people will always have different beliefs. If everyone believed in the same thing, there would never be anything interesting happening at all.
