In the book “night,” many changes are coming along. “Selection” is one of the most feared activities. Selection is when the SS Officers separate the weak from the stronger prisoners. The weak prisoners get sent to crematories. Everyone is tested. A doctor has to examine their bodies, to see if they are some-what healthy. Then, they are told to run to the other side of the field to see how fast they can run, to show their strength. Elie had ran really fast, fearing that they might write down his number. He and two other boys around his age planned to stick together to run faster as a group. As everything seems to get worse, Elie begins to lose more faith in his God. He begins to question God. Asking him questions such as, “What kind of God are you if you’re allowing these people too do so much damage to my people? What kind of God are you if you are allowing babies to be killed?” Elie begins to rebel against his religion during the fasting. At the beginning of a New Year, it is his religious beliefs to fast himself for that day to praise God. But, Elie refused to fast himself and ate his food anyways, because starving himself would bring himself closer to death. During the selection, Elie and his father are separated because his father is now older. Elie then worries that he will never see his father again. After passing the selections, Elie runs to his father to ask if he had passed the selection. Elie’s father says he did pass. A big rush of relief flows through their body. Elie’s father had sold a piece of rubber to another prisoner for half a ration of bread to give to Elie. Doing this shows that Elie’s father only cares that his son is eating and surviving. Elie’s father does not want his son to die. Which is telling Elie that he would starve himself in order for his son to eat. This reminds me of my father. When I lived in Nevada with my dad. We had little money. My father would eat only once a day, if even that. He would make sure me and my sister get to eat as much as we could everyday. It shows that my father is more concerned about providing our needs, than his own. Just seeing that he can still take care of us, with the little amount that he has gives him the strength to keep going. I predict that when Elie goes to the new camp, he finds that his father actually did survive the selection and prove that he is still good enough to work. And seeing that, will bring Elie’s faith in God back.
At the beginning of the chapter the summer was about to end. To them their year was ending. Then the next day in the morning Eli heard many people praying. Blessing the name of the Eternal. He was thinking why should he bless him if he hasn’t helped him in any way. He hadn’t helped anyone. He just kept letting everyone suffer. How cold Eli pray for someone who didn’t help them. Then he went to say Happy new years to his father. Then came the daddy of Atonement. When they should fast. But Eli and His father didn’t fast because they were already not eating enough. But Eli saw it as a way of being a rebel and showing somehow that he didn’t have respect for god. Then came the Selection. They examined everyone to see who was in good condition to keep working and who ever wasn’t they were sent to the crematory. Eli passed then he went to go see if his father passed ad he did. A few days later the head of the block called out ten numbers. They were ordered to stay behind. Then Elis father told him that he was told to stay behind and he wanted to give his son everything he owned. Eli doesn’t really pray for his god. Eli only asks his god questions, why this and things like that. He doesn’t believe in him anymore. Before he didn’t ask god why he let things happen now he is. Before he would pray for him and how great he was and now he doesn’t even pray. Now he doesn’t even want to fast. Not only because he isn’t getting enough food. But because he doesn’t see a reason why he should if he doesn’t even believe anymore.
In this section the relationship between Eli and his Father is very important. They are starting to get along better. It is probably because now they are going thru the same anguish. I think that in a way the relationship between them has gotten stronger. They are looking out for each other. Helping each other improve. They are looking for ways to take care of each other and ways to get more healthy. Now they are only have each other left. It has also made it hard for them. When Eli’s dad was getting beaten Eli just got away as if not to get hit. It think that it shows how confused and distant Eli was with his father. To me it kind of meant that he didn’t care. I think that in my life I would give up anything if I knew anyone in my family needed it.. I would do anything to keep them alive. We have a alright relationship so I think that they would do the same for me.
I think that in the next chapter Eli is going to think that his father is dead. I also think that Eli’s dad still has another chance. I think that Elis dad will pass this time and will be able to be with his dad.
The summer was coming to an end. The Jewish year was nearly over. Elie kept thinking that it was the last day to live. He kept on questioning god. Saying that what does his greatness mean if all these Jews are suffering and dying. Ten thousand men had come to attend the solemn service. Thousands of voices repeated the benediction “Blessed be the Name of the Eternal!”. Elie ran off to look for his father. His father forbidden Elie to fast, or go through a swifter death. He says that “these men here, whom YOU have betrayed, burned, gassed” are the men who pray before god. He says that “the people praise Your name!” and all you do is allow the mayhem to continue. I think that Elie’s father is more concern about Elie living, making sure he gives his ration to him. Family are the only people that I would sacrifice myself for because I know they feel the same about me. I think that Elie has the worst to come, I think that something worse will happen.
This chapter starts out with the things being different from usual. It was a special day it was Rosh Hashanah. What they do in this day is that they pray and they fast for god. The only problem is that Elie doesn't believe in god like he used to. This time Elie doubts his god and he asks him questions about everything that is going on. He asked god why he is letting so many people die and he is not saving them. Everyone says New Years to each other the same day since it is New Years. Eli was afraid of telling his dad happy new years because he doesn't believe in a new Years. The next day since he is upset he decides not to fast he thinks that if he does then he is going to be to weak to survive his dad also agrees with him. The same day they have to run around and run so they could save themselves. The weakest person get’s killed and the stronger ones would survive. When it was Eli’s turn to run he ran as fast as he could he didn’t want to die. Elie was worried that his dad wasn’t going to pass since he was so old. After Elie passes he went to go see his dad to see if his dad passed and his dad told him that he did pass. The next day they told 10 people to stay behind and those were the people that were going to get killed. Elie’s father also got left behind and Eli and him talked and his father told him to keep a knife and a spoon that belonged to him he believed that he would need it. Elie was sad he was scared for his fathers death.. I think that next chapter Elie’s dad is going to die. I also think that Elie is going to be really mad at god and he is not going to believe in him at all. I also think that Elie is going to give up and want to die since he doesn't have nothing.
List of Events
The Jewish year was nearly over
Many people proclaimed God’s name even though they were suffering
Elie and his dad get separated
The camps have another selection
Elie questions his faith
He asks why does God let people to continue suffer even though they are proclaiming his name
They call his fathers name
Elie’s father gives him a knife and a spoon to protect himself
Many families recite the Kaddish
Some events that show when Elie rebelled were when he thought that worshipping God was pointless. He said that at the camps they didn’t get fed enough so there was no point to fast. They were fasting year round. He questions whether he should proclaim God’s name because of all suffering that was going on around him. He asked God’s why he doesn’t take authority and let suffering like that go on even though people continue to worship him.
In the story Ellie is separated from his father. During the time he is separated from his father he worries very much. He wonders if his father will pass the selection and if he will make it too. The only way I believe that there relationship is changed is Elie begins to have more love for his father. He worries for him. He hopes that they don’t call his father number. I don’t think I can relate to his situation. No one in my life has ever been taken away from me. If there was a family member that was taken away from me I’m sure that I wouldn’t know how to act. I never been put to the test like elie. I still think that something worst will happen. I think that his father’s gonna pass on in the camp.
The year had finally come to an end. It was the last day of the and every thing seemed different. They were going to do selections to see who was healthy and who is weak. The night before selections every one gathered up in the yard surrounded by electric feces and barbed wire. Their they stood praying to god asking to bless their family and friends. Elie thought why should he ask to be blessed or even believe in god. The day before new years very one debated on fasting. Some people didn’t want to fast they said that they fast every day of the year. Others said that they should do it to let god now that even though they are in a living hell that they still believe and have faith in him. Elie has lost his faith and thinks that there Is no god. Because he cant find anyone that would let so many people die. He cant believe that god would let there be crematories that work day and night. Bodies just get thrown into the flaming pits like if they were not even humans. In this section of the book elie’s relationship has gotten better. Because he has always been with his father and hadn’t gotten separated from him. He is more emotional about things now that he is in a different building. Back in the day I always liked fighting a lot then one of my friends tolled my to chill and I didn’t want to. So one day he went up to me and started to try to fight and I didn’t want to. Then he socked me in the face and I got mad and knocked him down and I could have beaten him pretty bad. Some thing didn’t let me do it. We really didn’t talk for like a month but we started talking and we got along. Ever sense then I really don’t like to fight that much unless they start it and go to the extreme. My brother and I really get along. He is like my good friend that looks like me. My prediction about what will happen next is that elie will be put to work picking up the dead corps. His father wont get thrown into the flames of doom. Elie’s faith will slowly start to come back to him and his belief of god too.
1.In this section of Night there has been a lot of changes to Elie’s faith and his what he now considers his norm. At the beginning of the section he questions his faith further than any other indication in the book he elaborates on several thing that he has already stated in the books. One of the several claims he maid against God was that his all over justice, on page 42 it read, “For the first time, I felt revolt rise up in me. Why should I bless His name? The Eternal, Lord of the Universe, the All-Powerful and Terrible, was silent.” and now he goes further and says on pg. 74 “Yes, Man is very strong, greater than God.” he now sees god as having no control over his creation, or of his overall existence. Why is god allowing these things to happen? Why does he not use his wrath that was described in his studies? Were two of the questions that he asked himself, this is the downward decent of his religion and is most likely the end of his faith while he is at Buda. Another change that has occurred in this chapter would be that he has been separated from his father and is now feeling true loneliness set in as he continuously mention a dark void missing in him. In my opinion he feel the void because now god and his father are not always present at the camp. In this section it also go trough selection which he passes but judging by his sudden outburst at the end his father did not. So this could be the last time that he sees his father and he has received an inheritance of what were his fathers only possessions at the camp.
2. The Nazi’s have taken all away from the Jew’s till all they have is their faith, a faith that believes that God is judge and jury. So Elie question if God can destroy, flood, save why does he do nothing and questions the strength of God’s Justice and how he sentences those who have committed atrocities such as the holocaust. In result of the questions he posted on his faith he comes to a sad conclusion that Man has more control of the world than God has. That this place is, the ultimate, the end. The Nazi decide who lives and dies there fore the Nazi are seen as god of this place.
3. In this section of night Elie has finally been separated from his father. Their relationship is still as strong as it was in the beginning it still a sacrificial relationship in which the father would sacrifice all to help his son as seen in page 80 when the father exchanges a piece of plastic which he find on the floor for a ration of bread. As his father is faced with death he thinks squarely on the well being of Elie as he passes on his knife and spoon which was all his possessions in the camp. I have, or hope that I have with all of my family we would rather see the other better of than ourselves this is a process of give and take for me taking is harder than giving they same cant be said for the rest of my family but I would like to think it is and this being said I hope to one day have a family of my own that would mimic the relationship between my family and me. JI have no regrets about growing up with them except for the wrong choices I have made that have led to me being in the stupid situation that I am in.
4. I expec that the conditions of the camp will become more harsh and Elie will lose his father in the process. The conclusion that we left the section in means that either his father is freed and ordered to join rank or he if escaping the flame by means of a bullet from the Kapo
They they were going to separated from each other. They were sending some of them to the creamatorary. The dad said that he was not going to go to the creamatoary but he did not what for the kids to not get scared. The dad was already in a la line with his son .then they moved both of them and before that the dad had giving him a spoon and a knife and the father said to him to keep it and he mite need it in the long run . That’s why he gave him the spoon because he did not now if he was going to and other place or he was going to the creamatorary.
He feels sad about his dad. he don’t know what's going to happen to his dad. he really cares about his dad. He don’t what them to be apart from each other. He thinks that his going to be cremated.
My two older bothers and my cousin they would sacrifices there life for me .i would do it for them. Like when I am in trouble they would take the fought for me. when my bothers or my cousin get in to a mess I help them. We love each other and care about each other. my cousin is like a brother to me because he's always there. Some times a can talk to them when I am having problems. They sometimes talk to me and help me and talk to me by letting me now to do good in school and don’t give up. That how keeps me out of trouble is them.
I think that the father will get killed. My second one is that I think that he will be trains ported to an other place faraway. he will not be about to see his father no more that’s what I think.
The year had all ready end it is like the end of the Jews. Eli does not have any faith no more but he does not believe in god more then any other times. When they were on the assembly all the people were praying because they still believe in god even dew they have see their family died on the concentration camps. But Eli had say that he could no longer pray for someone that was not even there with them. Then the SS had seared the weak people from the strong people to see who was going to died and who was going to stay working. One of the SS told them to start taking their clothes off and when they say start they had to run as fast they can so they wont put them on the list so they will died. One example that show that his faith was gone is that sentences that say (why should I bless him?) when all the people was praying him to protect them or at lest to still had faith that god was going to be with them when was the time to died. The relationship between Eli and his father is still the same because it still show how much his father loves his son. A example for this is how me and my mom we love each other and I will protect her every time I could. I think that his father is going to try to protect him know. They are going to be more close to each other.

1.The summer for them was coming to an end. The Jewish was nearly over.2.Ten thousands men had come to attend the sole man service, heads of the blocks, kapos, functionaries of death.
3.thousands of children were burned in pits.
4.they kept six crematories working night and day and even on holidays.
5.he was no longer capable for lamentation he became to be stronger than what he was when he had seen a lot of torture with young children.
6.he felt terribly alone in a world without god and without man.
7.he didn’t believe in new years no more now that he had lost part of his faith.
8.yossi was a believer because he believes in god and prays every day.
well since he doesn’t believe in god after all the things that he has seen is really hard for him to deal with situations that deals with torture.
The person that I depend on is my mother because we help each other a lot. for example when she needs money I give it to her. I don’t only help her in that way but I also help to what she needs I ask for her help when I need an advice about something think that I wouldn’t be able to be on my own because we had always been there for each other. The relation with Eliezer and his father hasn’t changed I think that is still the same. Even thought he has lost his faith about believing god. But even thought things hasn’t changed he wouldn’t be able to be on his own with out his dad I think that I would be really if he don’t see his father ever again and if he did he would always remember him all the good things that they did togethe. Also since they have done lots of things with each other and had safe each others life this relate to the relationship that I have with my mom.
What I think that will happen is that he wont be able to see his dad ever again because his dad is already old. I also think that could happen is that either they would be together but they wouldn’t be able to see each other that they would have limits with each other.
The Germans are playing the role of God because they think they can just take anyone's life. They are killing people because they cant work or just because they look somehow or cant do something. They aren’t supposed to just go around killing people. They cant do that. Elie lost his faith because of the same thing, the Germans just started to kill people of all sorts, kids, babies, and seniors. They really didn’t care who they killed they just wanted the pure German race. They burned people, hit people and didn’t care in what way they just wanted to eliminate the Jewish race. In the part where he and his father get separated because he has to go to the work in the factory building he is really worried about his father getting caught up in the selection. They have a very strong relationship/bond. They try to help each other and they try to give it all up for each other. They try to be there for each other no matter what. Elie’s faith will come back eventually and his father will be saved from the selection. They are going to be set free.
There summer was already almost over. About 10 thousand men attended the sole man service. Thousands of kids were burned they kept crematories open night and day. He felt like he was by himself. He lost faith and began to forget about new years. I depend on my uncles or my grandpa because they are always helping me. Or my mom. Me and my mom are really close. She has helped me a lot in the past and she still does help me. I think that they will all die.
1.The boy is questioning his faith and saying that god doesn't do anything. He wants god to stop all the killing of the Jewish people. The Germans are also starting to do a selection so the boy is scared. They have to run, and as they run, there are Germans inspecting them to see if they're weak. If they are weak they will be sent to the furnace to die. The boy runs as fast as he can, and they don’t write down his number so that means he’ll live. He meets up with his father, and his father tells him that they didn’t write down his number. Later in the story they tell his father to stay behind, and the boy gets scared because he thinks they're going to kill his father. His dad tells him to take his knife and a spoon as his inheritance. His father starts to leave but then comes running back to tell him something, and then we stopped reading.2. They are starting to think that god doesn’t exist. They aren’t even fastening no more, because they think they might die quicker. They also start wondering why god hasn’t stepped in and helped out the Jewish people. A lot of people still have faith in god. But the boy lost complete faith in god. I think that their relationship has changed because he thinks he is going to lose his father. He now is starting to realize that he loves his father and that his father loves him. His father also is trying to say good bye to his son because he doesn’t know if he will ever see him again. He gives him a knife and a spoon and tells him here take it, do as I say. I don’t have that kind of relationship with anybody. Maybe my mom and dad would sacrifice everything for me but that’s it. I would sacrifice everything for them too. They really care for me, and support me, and they’re always there for me. I also need to start behaving and doing good so they can trust me, so that’s my relationship with my mom and dad. So that’s what I think about that.4.I think his father will not die, he’ll just go somewhere else. Nothing will happen to the boy. He will start to get his faith back.
