As you read you will find that Death-- A theme which was used throughout the book. It was shown through the loss of loved ones.
In chapter 1, the topic of death seems to be reaccuring in the story.
Elie identifies the German soldiers by their steel helmets with the emblem, the death's head. It is the first impression Elie has of the German soldiers.
The Jews are not allowed to leave their houses for three days-on pain of death. The term, "on pain of death" is used several times in the narrative to emphasize the harsh reality of the German's threats.
As the Jews are forced to wear the yellow star, Elie's father replies, "'The yellow star? Oh well, what of it? You don't die of it....'" Elie responds, "Poor Father! Of what then did you die?" The yellow star symbolizes the mark of distinction that sends many Jews to their deaths. In retrospect, Wiesel feels that his father and the Jews of Sighet conceded to their deaths by submitting to every German decree. With each submission, they die a bit more.
As the ghettos are emptied by the deportation of the Jews, rooms that were once bustling with activity, lay open with the people's belongings still remaining. It is like an "open tomb" in that there is no longer any sign of life.

In the story "Night", the Jews were sent to ghettos. A ghetto is a large walled up area where certain types of people or stereotypes are isolated from the outside world. The Jews are being sent to concentration camps, where they will be killed. The Ghetto's are only temporary homes until their ride to the camps come up. The Nazi's are behind all of this. They are the ones that are bringing the Jews to their new homes and to their deaths. All this is happening because Hitler is blaming the Jews, and saying they're the reason why Germany is so bankrupt. Hitler becomes a very big leader and starts getting rid of Jews by sending them to concentration camps. This book is very informative about things that happened during that time and shows how terrible it was. Now that the last few people have been sent to ghetto's i think that they'll start to get the idea that it isn't gonna be pleasent there, and that they're going to soon learn that where they are headed, isn't a good place at all. I think this way because, word has already gotten out that there are bad things happening, and they've already gotten chances to excape.
The narrator and his family got moved from one ghetto to another ghetto, the Gestapo were given threats. The wheels began to grind, and they were on there way. Jewish police, Gestapo, German officers. Nothing was really confusing. He wanted us to see how Jews were treated and how discrimination affected the Jews in a negative way. Some words were new to me, I have never heard of them. Mr. D says that the worse has yet to come. Mr. D told me that the next chapter is going to gruesome. Some of the main points is that they wanted to torture and get rid of Jews. The Jews had to hid their valuables from the Gestapo. They were wanting water, but were denied by the Gestapo. The author wants us to not forget about the pain and suffering the Jews had to endure. I think that the next chapter will be a lot more detailed about what the Jews had to go through.
The Gestapo got the narrators family and himself and the other people who lived in the ghetto and took them to a bigger one. The bigger the ghetto was the bigger the problems were. The Jews had to hide their valuables because the Gestapo wanted them all. They treated the Jews really bad, they wouldn’t hydrate them or give them anything to eat. It is essential to think that the Germans didn’t really have any emotions towards the Jews, or they might have had some emotion, they just wanted to kill for just killing. The outcome was that they killed millions and millions of Jews. The people who were involved were Jews and Germans, and Russia and Allies. This happened because one day they just decided they didn’t want Jews that weren't Hungarian in their country. The main point is that they wanted to kill or get rid of all Jews. The Author doesn’t want me to forget what many people have been through. How racism affects not just one person but many. It was confusing choosing or deciding who was Jew. German words. What will happen next is, that the Gestapo will send the Jews to the concentration camps. They will treat them bad and many will die. i think the way I do because that’s how I was raised.
The little boy in the story started to learn about cabbala. They all were happy a man named moche was helping the boy on his studies. Moche gets taken away by the police. The Germans controlled every thing that went on. Hitler wanted to take over more land and kill off most of the Jews. The main point was to expand his army and take lands get rid of the Jews. To all ways expect the unexpected. The only thing that was confusing was that they kept moving around and were they would be going.
What happen is that this guy named Moche the beadle tried to warn the Jews that the German people are doing bad stuff to the Jews but the Jews did not believe him. Then the Hungarian took the Jews out of their house and the little kids were trusty but couldn't drink water. The Jews were taken away from their houses to a small ghetto it was a hard night for them because they really don’t know what was happening. The most important thing that is happening is that the German people are trading the Jews bad by taking their house away and trident them bad just for being Jews. The outcome for this story is that a lot of Jews are going to died and suffer a lot. The people that is involved in this are the German people, and the Jews. This happen because the German people does not like the Jews religion. The main point of this is that people sometimes don’t get others people religion and they do some mean stuff to them. The author is trying people to know what happen back at that time and want people to know what the Jews suffer so we don’t do it.. What is confuse to me is that sometimes I get a little lost and don’t get the book.. What will happen next is that the Jews are going to suffer a lot.. If I was like them I could not do anything about it because I will not want to get killed.
Death is one of the main themes of this book along with torture and cruelty. This book doesn’t inspire or should be taken lightly it is to show us of a dark time in history and the cruelty that transpired at that time. It is displayed and shown to us in the eyes of a twelve year old boy who lived trough this ordeal. I believe that this book was meant to show people the cruelty so that history cannot repeat itself.
In the first chapter of Night it is the calm before the storm, you can see the clouds gather, they have been isolated, marked, and moved from their norm. First they have undergone some changes like they were set a curfew with the penalty of death. Then they were given a yellow star of David that marked them and set them apart. Then they were moved in to the ghettos to isolate them from the rest of the country, and now they are being moved once more to a smaller ghetto to get ready for deportation to what I assume is a concentration camp.
I believe that ALL of the story is essential it shows the strength of faith the change in their routine and how they assured themselves that they would be all right even thought they lived in what they must felt as an impending doom.
So far in the story there is final conclusion in the main character’s eyes that they were heading toward disaster so this is the calm before the storm.
This chapter was about how a little boy in the story started to learn about cabbala. It talked about all the sufferings he went thru. It talked about how he tried to warn people of what was happening and nobody listened to him. It talks about some of the main points is that they wanted to torture and get rid of Jews. I feel that This book is very informative about things that happened during that time and shows how terrible it was. Then they were given a yellow star of David that marked them and set them apart I feel that that’s wrong to stereotype people for religious reasons.
the jews got sent to the ghetto a temperary place, before they got sent to concetration camps where they were killed. they were not allowed to go out because if they did they would get shot. then the gestapo (secret police) came to take the jews to the camps. one of the jews came back and told everyone what was happening in those camps. no one would believe him because he thought he was crazy. also i dont know what really happened because i wasnt paying attention. but tomorrow i will do better.

To all ways expect the unexpected. The only thing that was confusing was that they kept moving around and were they would be going. I didn’t really need help with any phrases or words. They all seemed easy and understandable. I think that they are going to be put in a concentration camp and be put to work separated from their family. I think that because most of the other families got separated or got shot in their front of wives ,husbands and children. The germens didn’t care about the jews or about what they felt or thought.
I think that this chapter is a really meaningful chapter. The reason why I think that is because this chapter showswhat Jews had to go trough. The way that evrything was a nightmare for Jews and how importnat this period of time is for the Jews. The book basically starts out by showing how the war was going on and how the Germans were trying to take over. The war that is going on at this time is world war. The book also talks about how the Jews were being treated and being treaten to get killed for being Jews. The Jews had to live in ghetto. What the ghetto’s were , a piece of land that had walls around them. The ghetto’s were as big as four blocks. The people that lived in the ghetto couldn’t go out of the ghetto. What the Jews basically did was that they made their own society. The book also talks about a really religious boy. This boy goes to church every day and prays. The boy has a big family and his family owns a business. The book also shows a guy named Moche the Bedle the guy is really religious at the beginning of the book. Him and the little boy go to temple everyday and they both pray and cry and they are really religious. Then Moche the Bedle got taken away to a concentration camp but he got away. When he came back he told every one what happened and no one believed him they thought that he was crazy. After a while he didn’t talk at all and he always kept his head down. Things were fine for a while but then the Germen army broke in. That’s when things changed they weren’t allow to go outside past certain time. Then after a while they started taking everyone away. They would make them leave evrything behind and wait outside for hours until the rides came. Then that is when the nightmare began for them even knowing nothing but that they were living evrything behind and not knowing what was going to happened to them
This book starts how the war with the German is going on. The German come to where the main character of the story lives. First they take the foreign Jews. The other Jews don’t know where they took them but they thought they were ok since they didn’t hear about them. And they were spreading rumors that they were very happy. They didn’t believe that anything bad would happen to them. They thought that the German that had arrived were nice people. Then the Hungarian police men told the Jews that they couldn’t get out of their house and they had to wear the star of David. Then the police then took the rest of the Jews into a ghetto. They had build two ghettos a smaller one and a bigger one. Then they were taking into trucks and I guess they were taken to a concentration camp. While they are in the truck the young people know that they are going to die. The main character is in this truck. Also there is a woman that is mad and starts yelling that there is fire. I think in the next chapter they wills start killing people out of nowhere. What I don’t understand is why would anyone be ok with the Germans coming in and they are actually listening to them. I wouldn’t do that. I think that they are going to suffer a lot and they are going to watch each other die.
