(15 sentences) When the prisoners first arrive at the camp, some of the young men want to rebel: "We've got to do something. We can't let ourselves be killed. We can't go like beasts to the slaughter. We've got to revolt." Despite these early feelings of rebellion, the prisoners rapidly become docile and fearful, and they follow the rules set out by the Nazi authorities.
Why do they obey people who are so obviously intent on destroying them? Why do they not just team up together and rebel?

The young Jews wanted to revolt because they new what was kind of happening. They had found out that they were going into the crematory. The young Jews knew that they were about to go into the fire and they didn’t want to give the Germans the power. They were ready to fight except the older Jews told them that if it was going to happen it was because it was fate. They convinced the young people that everything was going to happen however god wanted it to happen. They had weapons and everything so I think that they really would have been able to beat the Germans up one way or another. The only reason (I think) that they didn’t team up and rebel or revolt was because they didn’t have weapons like the Germans did. They didn’t have guns they didn’t have nothing big that could help them big time, the only weapons they had were knives. They only obeyed them because like I said they had weapons and they didn’t want to get shot. Although I don’t understand why didn’t they just go get shot instead of getting burned or being put in the gas chamber.
There is one time that my life was in danger. It was when I was a little kid about 6 to 7 years old I was walking down a hill to grab my brothers shoe. He was to scared to go down to get it so me being the brave one went to go get it. I still remember that day as if it were just yesterday . Me and Adam were playing out side and his shoe fell down the hill and I went to go get his shoe. He told don’t go because the dogs are loss but I didn’t care. When I went down I didn’t see them so I thought that they had left . I grabbed it and started to walk up the hill I heard the worst sound. I looked back and saw those teeth of several dogs looking at me viscously. I tried to run away but the dogs got running up the hill . All I remember was covering my head because all the dogs were biting my on my legs arms and my back. The neighbor saw the dogs and called out for my mom and they both ran down were I was laying in a puddle of my own blood. My mom picked me up from my under arm and took me to the house to wash out all my wounds. She put goz on them and took me to the doctor to get a hole bunch of shots. After that day ive never seen dogs the same way. That’s the thing that runs though my head every time I see a dog lose out on the streets.
The young people want to rebel against all the officers, but they only talk like that when it’s okay to talk. They don’t attack because they’re scared and not sure if anyone will actually do it. Imagine that you’re one of the teens that want to rebel and kill the officers, but when you attack an officer, you end up doing it by yourself because everyone else is scared. Most of what they’re saying is all talk, they’re too scared to do it when they get the chance. Mostly because the officers have guns. Also, their fathers are begging them not to do it. They’re not aware that they’ll die. But a lot of them are aware that they’re going die. I think if one person ran up on an officer, then everyone else would have joined in, but many of them would hesitate to do it. They need more time to plan everything because just a couple of seconds of talking wouldn’t convince everyone to do it all. They’re afraid to die, but why would you be afraid to die when they’re basically killing everyone in front of you and all around you? Its either die and save everyone else, or just die not trying at all.
In the face of death man can turn on his neighbor, question every aspect of his faith, and loose what truly sets us apart from the animals. In this section of book it shows two of the three examples and I suspect that the third will also appear later on in the book.
In this Section of the book they were finally taken to one of the camps that would seal their fate and scar them for the rest of their life. “-that’s where you're going to be taken .that’s your grave.” this one line to me showed the first sign that there was no chance left, it was the final nail in their coffin, in my mind they were dead. “….that they could burn people in our age. That humanity would never tolerate it….” As he saw the babies being he lost the will to fight as death approached them they saw the unlikely chances of their survival. burned it was an absolute abomination this was more than likely the point of no return they knew they were dead and they knew that they were walking straight toward it. In a glance at the desperation that this boy felt it showed that death was inevitable and it would be better to brake ranks and be shot than to march into the flames and die.
“You must never lose faith even if the sword hangs over your head”. Their religion gave them hope and to some degree tolerance of these intolerable acts that they were faced with. Then faced with such a horrible death they were stricken a step back in their religion and led to question it because of the cruelty these men displayed, without religion man is an animal and their religion was taken from them through the acts of these fiends. And in the final act in the section they were stripped of their remaining humanity as they were forced to stand naked, cleaned and disinfected as if they were animals.
None will ever know how it really was, how badly they were on lock. Maybe they were out numbered by the guns surrounding them. They seem to have so much pride in their god, but if it was me I’d be the first to die. The only reason that they didn’t team up and rebel or revolt was because they didn’t have weapons like the Germans did. They held their ground, even if they knew death was staring at them.

Then faced with such a horrible death they were stricken a step back in their faith and led to question it, because of the cruelty these men displayed, without religion man is an animal. Their religion was taken from them through the acts of these fiends. Faith was a major reason that they were kept back from their first instinct to rebel there were also bouts of sound judgment from the older people in the group who knew that they would be shot if they were to step out of line. With their strong faith they had some sound voice that all would turn in their favor, in their mind God would not allow such evil to go on without even an indication of the transpiring outside. My faith has also been tested as my will to live was diminished I was shut of and shut out of the world I was dead. But with faith in time I recovered and I know that if my faith can maintain its strength I know that my fears and doubts will be slowly diminished.
All of the jews obey the Nazi because they have guns. Also because they seen what Nazi's are capable of. They are all just terrified that the same thin could happen to them self's. even though they want to turn agents the Nazi army. They don’t have any weapons to fight agents them. They don’t know what to do because they haven't realized that together they could take over their lives. They could have been the first to rebel and win their freedom. They could have regained the life that they once had. That is one thing they didn’t think to much they thought more about they were going to die. When they could have bin thinking about getting out. They would have succeeded because there was more Jewish people than Nazi military in the camps that they worked at. I personally never had to go though any thing like that. But if I would have I juts don’t know how much it would affect me. I don’t know how I would think if every one went though that they would appreciate living more.
Most Jews know were they were going to go. All of the Jews were scared because they did not want to get put to sleep. The Jews were also mad and they wanted to attack the officers. The Jews didn’t have guns or any weapons to fight with officers. They had to obey there rules or if they didn’t obey there rules. They would brain wash the little kids. There was all ages of Jews. They were getting transfer to other places. They would just pick how they wanted to run there own placements. They would throw them against the election wire. Most of them wanted to die what there an then.
the older Jews ‘’begged their children not to do any thing foolish.’’
They all wanted to escape but they became less frighten remembering not to loss their faith in god.
all hope was lost of revolting when they remembered the teachings of the sages.
They obey the ss officers because their armed and their curl looking.
The Jews are scared of the ss officers because their brutal and curl .
All the Jews are scared of being thrown in the furnaces or thrown in a hole with all the other Jews.
There all disoriented hungry tiered and want to be their families.
The Nazis want to brake them down emotionally to the point were they wont want to do any thing to rebel because they will get shot down.
The Jews get treated like there worthless piece of trash.
Their full of fear for them self's and for there families.
They didn’t want to die there doing work for the Nazi they wanted to be in there house were its warm.
All the Jews had left were memories of happiness and times the had before they got to Auschwitz.
I think that there are many reason why the Jews didn’t do nothing about what the officers were doing to the. I think that the main reason why they didn’t want to do nothing was because they were scared. I mean they saw how much power they had and they didn’t want to die. The Jews probably thought that they had no choice then to listen to everything that they told them to do. Also I think that the Jews thought that since they didn’t have no guns or anything and the Germans had guns then if they tried to fight back then they would loose the battle. I think that the people didn’t team up because they thought that a miracle was going to happened and they were going to get saved by someone or something. They also probably didn’t want to do it because of their religion, in the book a lady tells the boys that are planning to attack the SS officers to not do nothing that they will get saved just to believe in their god. I think that if I was in their position I would try to team up with the girls and try to run away because if you stay their you are going to die anyways.
What I think that when people listen more to the people that try to hurt them is because they are scare to not follow what they have been ask. Sometimes they feel that they are threaten and that they might hurt one of their family members. What happens is that most of the prisoners like to work on there own because they have internal conflicts with others that are in prison with them. For example like the jails in san Diego most of them are gang members and they go from were they are from. If one of them betrays they get hurt is kind of the same thing from what's happening in the book. I remember when I used to be a bad girl that at some point my friends couldn’t betray me because I would either fight them or make their life's miserable but now I have grown out of all the bad things that I used to do that at this moment I regret.
“do you want to bring trouble on us all?”
They obey those who treat them bad because there are scared of them. There are many reasons why they could be scared of the Nazis. they don’t have any basic training or fighting skills and the Nazis do. It would be hard for them to fight back. It would probably be like a three on one thing. And that’s not even enough. Especially because they don’t get fed regularly so they are weak. The reason why they mite not want to team up and rebel is because they cant fight back they’re in fear. Even if they tried to they mite get shot in the middle of it. Or there are also other reasons. Another reason would be because they have pride and they’ll just die like whatevers. Or maybe its just religious beliefs. My personal opinion is the whole situation is messed up. For all of those old young and helpless people . The Nazis were just like bullies.
I think that they obey them for different reasons. One might be the fact that either way they are going to die. There are barb wired fences, so they can’t escape. They are all surrounded. They are weak because they haven't eaten anything. They also don’t have any weapons but so how are they going to try to fight them. They probably think that if they cause any trouble it is going to be worse for them. They also think about their family. They probably think that if they make it until the war is over they are going to be able to see their wives and children again. Some of the people there are still looking for their family and asking around to see if anyone has seen them. I also think that some of the people there still have some faith. Faith that everything will be ok. Faith that they are going to get out of it alive. They have faith in their religion and that they this is just an experience that will help them be a better person. And understand life a lot more. I also think that others are just tired of everything. They don’t even care anymore. They have lost their families and in their eyes they have lost everything so there is no reason to worry if they live or die.
I think they obey them because they are scare of what is going to happen to them. They are weak to fight, have no weapons on them and they still want to get their families. I also think they still have a lot of faith with them they probably think that god is watching how much is the faith they have with them how much they will support in there. Plus they have faith that one day they will realize them and god will help them forget everything that happen. They are scare of together fight because they are to scare of what might happen to them sees all this crazy people hurrying them. Plus they were ignorant and did not know what to do.
On page 40 it summarized my thoughts of why the prisoners did not rebel, it read, “You must never lose faith even when sword hangs over your head. That’s the teachings of our sages.” It is obvious to me that one reason that they did not escape was that their faith thought them to be optimist and to never see the end as something to be feared. Their faith gave them hope and to some degree tolerance on some of the abominable acts that they were put trough. They were placed near a furnace and they more than likely assumed that they were going to be pushed in as in Elie was nearing his turn he felt that he would rather run into the electrical wires than to be pushed in the fire pit and burned alive. On page 42 we see that he begins to question his faith as some one around him recited the prayer of death “For the first time, I felt revolt rise up in me. Why should I bless his name His name The Eternal, Lord of the Universe, the All- powerful and Terrible, was silent. What had I to thank him for.” His time in the line waiting for death led to him wanting to rebel against his faith and begin to ask questions to himself that seemed to show his anger toward God at that time. The kind of questions he asked were question with no answer, a question that only he could answer because to every one God is different, a mixture of our beliefs and what we perceive as right and wrong. The questions he asked of his God is, Where are you? How can he let this happen? Another reason that they might have not rebelled is that the conditions that the were exposed to arrive at this location were inhuman and were easily overwhelming and could have left most of them feeble, tired smothering their will to fight incapacitated. And another is the sound judgment coming from the older people who knew that if they rebelled they would die and why not delay the inevitable. Also they have been shipped to the an unknown terrain wich will lead them stranded or dead if they try to escape. My faith has also been tested but not to the level and the extent that they have been put trough. That they are inside of the storm they know that death surrounds them at every turn and they are cut off from their home and their norm. He give several details of how strong his faith is and it is obvious that without faith many already have gone mad just from the heat and the severe condition that they have been put trough.
